A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more. Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 -- TO MY FRIENDS -- Daimoku chanted for our friends with a sincere heart and actions that are taken with honest concern for them definitely reach their hearts. "I want to encourage that person somehow." "I really want this friend to become happy." With such a faithful heart and unwavering sincerity, let's develop trustworthy relations with as many people as we can! Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "When we have this mandala with us, it is a rule that all the Buddhas and gods will gather round and watch over us, protecting us like a shadow day and night, just as warriors guard their ruler, as parents love their children, as fish rely on water, as trees and grasses crave rain, and as birds depend on trees. You must trust in it with all your heart." (On Upholding Faith in the Gohonzon - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol. 1, page 624) Selection source: SGI President Ikeda's guidance, Seikyo Shimbun, May 23rd, 2012 Sunday, May 24th, 2015 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "The Daishonin sternly warns that even if one calls oneself a disciple of Nichiren, one mustn't be of 'two minds,' practising both the Nembutsu and the Lotus Sutra (cf. WND-1, 82). He seeks to drive home to Hyoe Shichiro the importance of establishing unshakable faith in the correct teaching. "'Two minds' refers to the confusion and weakness that prevents one from being able to believe solely or fully in the Lotus Sutra. "Buddhism is rigorous. There can be no compromise in its faith and practice. One must always remain completely committed to it, and not be of two minds. "Being of two minds is having weak faith that can be affected by things and events around us. Being unable to denounce the 'enemies of the Lotus Sutra'—that which constitutes slander of the Law—out of fear of opposition, or leaving things up to others, hoping they'll do the hard work, are both cases of being of two minds, in today's terms."
