A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more. Friday, May 15th, 2015 -- TO MY FRIENDS -- The surest way to winning in life lies in the two ways of practice and study. Even if it is only a single sentence or phrase, let's seriously and earnestly study the Daishonin's writings in our daily practice and SGI activities! *"Exert yourself in the two ways of practice and study. Without practice and study, there can be no Buddhism. You must not only persevere yourself; you must also teach others. Both practice and study arise from faith. Teach others to the best of your ability, even if it is only a single sentence or phrase." - "The True Aspect of All Phenomena", WND-I, page 386 Friday, May 15th, 2015 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "I, Nichiren, have done nothing else, but have laboured solely to put the five or seven characters of Myoho-renge-kyo into the mouths of all the living beings of the country of Japan. In doing so, I have shown the kind of compassion that a mother does when she labors to put milk into the mouth of her infant child." (On Reprimanding Hachiman - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.2, page 931) Selection source: SGI President Ikeda's essay, Seikyo Shimbun, May 15th, 2015 Saturday, May 16th, 2015 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "'Mandala is a Sanskrit word that is translated as "perfectly endowed" or "a cluster of blessings." This Gohonzon also is found only in the two characters for faith. [1] This is what the sutra means when it states that one can "gain entrance through faith alone" [LSOC3, 110]. - From "The Real Aspect of the Gohonzon" (WND-1, 832). "The Gohonzon that we of the SGI embrace is endowed with inexhaustible blessings. It is the great object of devotion that enables us to realise all our prayers. "What matters is our faith. Even Shariputra, a leading disciple of Shakyamuni renowned as being foremost in wisdom, could gain entry to the Buddha way only through faith (cf. LSOC3, 110). "Through the power of our faith and practice for the happiness of ourselves and others—chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and taking action based on our vow for kosen-rufu—we can freely tap the boundless power of the Buddha and the Law." SGI Newsletter No. 9241, Living the Gosho: (57) Faith Dedicated to Kosen-rufu Is a Source of Magnificent Benefit, from 29th April, 2015, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translation released 13th May, 2015 [1] The Japanese word for faith consists of two Chinese characters. * The Japanese kanji is available by clicking on Seikyo Shinbun's web-site address at http://www.seikyoonline.jp/news/index.html --WAGATOMO NI OKURU-- JINSEI SHORI NO JIKIDO WA "GYOGAKU NO NIDO" NI ARI.
