A translation of President Ikeda's
"Words of the Week"
published in the Seikyo Shinbun and more.

-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
Let's give those members who are starting a new life
such as proceeding to the next stage in their education,
starting a new job, moving to a new place, etc.,
the warmest encouragement and support we can!
A change, often than not, is a golden opportunity in life.
Life is for us to win and be successful in.
Let's be victorious by being ourselves,

-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
Let's give those members who are starting a new life

the warmest encouragement and support we can!
A change, often than not, is a golden opportunity in life.
Life is for us to win and be successful in.
Let's be victorious by being ourselves,
just as is taught in Buddhism,
"Each of us is as unique as a cherry, plum, peach or apricot blossom."*
*Each of us is as unique as a cherry, plum, peach or apricot blossom, like Nichiren states in the Gosho. Cherry blossoms are cherry blossoms and plum blossoms are plum blossoms. Accordingly, you must bloom in the way that only you can. Without a doubt you possess your own jewel, your own innate talent inside of you. The question is: How can you discover that talent? The only way is to exert yourself to the very limits of your ability. Your true potential will emerge when you give everything you have to your studies or sports or whatever you are engaged in. "Be firmly convinced that the benefits from this will extend to your parents, your grandparents, nay, even to countless living beings."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (1904–73) wrote: 'In the midst of my struggles, I realised that my mission on this earth is to spread joy.' [1]
"Neruda continued to speak out fiercely against the brutalities of fascism and authoritarian forces that inflicted suffering on the people. He shared the struggles of the ordinary people throughout his life.
"The only way to build a genuinely democratic society is for the people to become strong and wise, and unite together. It is vital that each individual possess a philosophy enabling them to distinguish good from evil, and for them to advance feeling that their efforts are making a real difference.
"That's why dialogue is so important—it promotes people's awareness and also deepens friendships."
