"Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism is the Buddhism of the sun, illuminating all
people everywhere. And the Soka Gakkai is an organisation of the people,
dedicated to propagating this great teaching. Through supporting and
encouraging ordinary people, and enabling them to bring forth their innate
potential and strength, our organisation has helped transform society.
Nothing is stronger than the people. Today, as the world faces a devastating
economic crisis, the key to creating a brighter future lies in powerfully
encouraging and rallying the indomitable spirit of the people.
"Society and the world will change when political and economic leaders
develop a genuine spirit of gratitude and service toward the people. On the
other hand, a society that fails to utilise the great potential of ordinary
people is destined for stagnation and decline. When leaders look down on the
people, thinking they're better than them because of their social position
or elite education, when they exploit the people and sacrifice the people's
welfare for their own narrow self-interests, the darkness looming over
society only grows darker and deeper. The Daishonin's Buddhism is a great
humanistic and people-centred philosophy that challenges this tendency
toward arrogance, pretension, and discrimination head-on."
