[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] Words of the Week April 13th - 19th + Daily Gosho April 13th & Daily Enc. April 14th

* There is a national press holiday here in Japan so there is no Seikyo
Newspaper today. BUT "Words of the Week" was published yesterday so we held
on to it to cover the "gap." Hope that is OK! Here we go then...

A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week"
published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more.

April 13th-19th, 2009
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
All of our SGI's discussion meetings are
gatherings where the heart of Buddhism exists.
Cheerfully and joyfully,
let's hold the type of discussion meeting where blossoms
of talent and ability shine and where victorious
stories of people's courageous practice are enthusiastically shared.

* "There is laughter, there are tears, there is emotion. The SGI discussion
meeting is a people's oasis that reverberates with a spirit of determination
and appreciation, where suffering turns into courage, and fatigue gives way
to warm fulfilment.

"This small gathering is the very image of human harmony. It is a true model
of democracy. It has the pulse of kosen-rufu and links faith, family and the
community. It is pervaded with the spirit to enable the noble children of
the Buddha and their precious friends to become happy. This is the spirit of
the Lotus Sutra."

"The Buddha's preaching took the format of dialogue. In this we find an
important point in common with SGI discussion meetings. To people searching
for and earnestly inquiring into the meaning of life, Shakyamuni replies
with sincerity, relating his own experience and skilfully employing
metaphors and parables to clarify his meaning. Those who see and hear this
give-and-take are engulfed in the joy of expanding their own states of life.
There is a radiant determination, a spiritual chain reaction, a wondrous
heart-to-heart exchange."
(The Wisdom of the Lotus Sutra, Vol.2, page 95-96)

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"When, in present-day Japan, eye-opening ceremonies for the Buddha images
are conducted according to the True Word
rite, demons occupy them and deprive people of their lives, for a demon is
also known as a robber of life. Moreover, devils enter those images and
deprive people of benefits; another name for a devil is a robber of
benefit."

Daishonin, Vol.1, page 87) Selection

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Unless we view things with the eye of the Buddha and the eye of the Law, we
cannot truly apprehend the significance of persecution of the correct
teaching or the fundamental cause for upheavals and disturbances in society.
Practising Buddhism means struggling to realise victory. Therefore, we have
to stand up with the heart of a lion king and win."
