-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Let us aim to break through our own limitations, setting new personal
records,
surpassing even those achieved in the past!
When we walk the path of mentor and disciple with selfless and single-minded
determination,
unprecedented strength and courage, like that of the lion king,
wells up from the very depths of our beings,
leading us to accomplish great victories.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"If you care anything about your personal security, you should first of all
pray for order and tranquillity throughout the four quarters of the land,
should you not?"

(On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land - The
Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol. 1, page 24)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Whenever I read 'Letter from Sado,' I vividly recall an episode from my
youth. It was during the period when my mentor Josei Toda's business
operations were in the most dire financial straits. Mr. Toda had just
stepped down from his position as Soka Gakkai general director to protect
the organisation, and was wholeheartedly struggling to break through these
difficulties.

"I remember him one day reading a portion of 'Letter from Sado.' It was the
part where Nichiren Daishonin explains that the various hardships he is
undergoing--such as being cursed and spoken ill of and lacking food and
clothing--are exactly as described in the sutras. Mr. Toda remarked: 'To
think that the Daishonin endured such circumstances. And now, I am
experiencing the same. In my case, no matter how much money I make, I can't
seem to turn a profit!' As he uttered these words, he was smiling. Even amid
his enormous troubles, he could smile like that! This image of his serene
composure in the midst of adversity is forever engraved in my mind.

"I remember another occasion when Mr. Toda returned from a visit to the
Finance Ministry regarding his business woes. The day was frigid and sleet
was falling, and he was shivering with cold. 'The world is really a cold
place,' he laughed, adding: 'Daisaku, I haven't been defeated. My businesses
have failed, that's all. The true struggle lies ahead.' He was saying that
though it might appear he had been wiped out financially, he had not been
defeated in the slightest in terms of life and faith; after all, he had a
genuine disciple and the real test was still to come. His dauntless spirit
further fuelled my resolve and fighting spirit. I vowed that I wouldn't
allow anyone to defame or harm my mentor.

"The Daishonin's writings can likewise rouse an indomitable fighting spirit
in the hearts of those buffeted by the bitter winds of suffering or
adversity. When the invincible spirit of Nichiren Daishonin pulses in our
lives, nothing can intimidate us.

"As long as we make a point of reading the Daishonin's writings and
internalising its lessons, no karma can defeat us. And as long as we
steadfastly dedicate ourselves to the way of mentor and disciple, no
obstacles or devilish functions will hinder us. Please be confident that by
living your life based on the Daishonin's writings and in accord with the
path of a disciple, you can break through any obstacle or limitation.
