[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] To My Friends & Daily Gosho Dec. 3rd + Daily Enc. Dec. 4th

A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more.

-- TO MY FRIENDS --
I sincerely hope that each and every member of the Future Division, without exception,
becomes a person "who can inherit the soul of the Lotus Sutra."*
Towards this end, let's all take the responsibility to chant earnestly
and make every effort to encourage our Future Division members (in whatever way we can)!
Let's also lend our utmost support and be really thoughtful and considerate towards families where students may be challenging school or university entrance examinations**!

* Gosho - "The Hero of the World", WND-I, page 839, "I have been ceaselessly praying for your sake to the Lotus Sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha, and the god of the sun, for I am convinced that you are a person who can inherit the soul of the Lotus Sutra."

** Here in Japan, we are close to entrance examinations for universities/colleges, high schools, and other schools.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Therefore, when you chant myoho and recite renge, you must summon up deep faith that Myoho-renge-kyo is your life itself."

(On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol. 1, page 3)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The start of 2010, the Soka Gakkai's 80th anniversary year, is fast approaching. Congratulations! Thank you for all your efforts! No other Buddhist organisation continues to grow and develop around the world at the pace of the SGI. Ours is a truly remarkable movement.

"In Buddhism, the Chinese character for 'eight' conveys the meaning of 'opening.' As we look forwards to our 80th anniversary next year, let's make three shared determinations.

"First, let's 'open,' or expand, our state of life. As leaders, the more we broaden our inner capacity, the more people we can help on the path to happiness, the more we can foster able successors, and the more we can contribute to the development of our organisation. The driving force for expanding our inner state of life is chanting daimoku based on the spirit of oneness of mentor and disciple.

"Second, let's 'open,' or expand, our friendships. Expanding our circle of friends is the very essence of kosen-rufu. Let's strive to increase the number of friends with whom we can talk freely and openly, friends we can trust with all our hearts. I employed just this kind of 'personal diplomacy' to advance kosen-rufu by making allies out of those who didn't understand our aims or were prejudiced against our movement. 'The voice does the Buddha's work' (cf. OTT, 4). Let's enable as many people as possible to form a connection with Buddhism by talking to them with confidence and conviction.

"Third, let's 'open' the way to victory. Buddhism is about winning; its purpose is to enable us to win in every aspect of our lives. Buddhist practice entails brave and vigorous exertion. Let's forge ahead with indomitable courage.

"Together let's adorn the Soka Gakkai's 80th anniversary with brilliant victories, and triumphantly open the way to eternal glory for kosen-rufu and our own lives."
