"It's my sincere hope that you will all be able to confidently say, 'I couldn't possibly be any happier. No life could be more enjoyable or wonderful.'
"By that I don't necessarily mean a life in a grand house, eating expensive delicacies, and living in the lap of luxury. The happiness attained through fulfilling such desires is ephemeral and quickly fades. That is only relative happiness.
"Let's say that your wish for a big house comes true. But if all you're obsessed with is fulfilling your desires, every time you see a bigger house, you'll desire it. And if you can't acquire it, you'll feel dissatisfied and unhappy."
"The treasures of the body and the treasures of the storehouse are important as proof of the benefits to be obtained through this Buddhist faith and practice. But wealth is inevitably exhausted, and can be destroyed overnight in some kind of accident or disaster. And though we may enjoy physical strength, it, too, declines as we age.
"True happiness is found in accumulating the treasures of the heart, which cannot be destroyed by the dynamic unfolding of events or the passage of time."
