-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The fundamental and eternal spirit of the Seikyo Shimbun,
our organisational newspaper, is that it is forever
the newspaper for the sake of the people.
With our deep apprecation to all of those who support
its publication and promotion,
we will continually endeavour to send out
a light of both compassion and wisdom!
*On August 24, 1950, Josei Toda said with profound insight:
"Shin'ichi, the press has far greater power in modern society than we ever imagined. An independent newspaper can certainly be troublesome, but to publish our own would give us immeasurable great power. Our society should have its own newspaper at the earliest possible time think about it, Shin'ichi." Shin'ichi had been aware of the power of the press but he had not thought of a newspaper for the Soka Gakkai. Thus, it was in this troubled time that the idea for the Seikyo Shimbun was born. ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The Soka Gakkai is a gathering of Bodhisattvas of the Earth, which is carrying out the practice of Bodhisattva Never Disparaging in the present age. As such, our fundamental spirit is to respect all people, to pray and work for the happiness of humanity, and do everything we can to help and support others.
"In the world today, there is a growing indifference towards others. Genuine humanity has fallen to the wayside as relationships based on self-interest and power hold sway. That makes it all the more crucial to build a society that is filled with human warmth and characterized by mutual respect, trust, and support.
"This is the mission of the Soka Gakkai, and its leaders must be in the vanguard of this effort. A revolution in the life state and character of our leaders, therefore, is the greatest driving force for kosen-rufu."
