The time to start taking concrete actions
towards victory in our lives and for kosen-rufu is now!
With youthful vigour and enthusiasm in our activities this year,
let's write a golden history of our actions,
"that will remain as the only memories of our present life in this human world!"*

"'They say that when roots are deep, the leaves will not wither; when there is a jewel in…the fountain, its waters will never cease to flow. And how deep are the roots of your faith, how pure the jewel in your heart.'
From 'Reply to the Lay Nun of Kubo' (WND-2, 755).

"This passage is one in which Nichiren Daishonin praises a female follower, the lay nun of Kubo, for maintaining resolute faith in this troubled world where 'strong winds cause the grasses to bend and flashes of lightning fill people with alarm' (WND-2, 755). He was aware of all her dedicated efforts.

"Faith in the Mystic Law constitutes the roots of happiness so that we are never defeated and the fountain of good fortune so that we are never deadlocked.

"Let's continue to perform our inspiring dance of spiritual triumph together again in the coming year (2014), with the conviction that those who practise the Daishonin's Buddhism with unswerving resolve will win in the end."
