"We need to shine with the light of unity.
"I am delighted that members in Japan and around the world are now exerting themselves with ever greater energy in the 'two ways of practice and study' (WND-1, 386).
"In 'The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life,' a writing whose words we have engraved in our hearts, Nichiren Daishonin states:
All disciples and lay supporters of Nichiren should chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with the spirit of many in body but one in mind, transcending all differences among themselves to become as inseparable as fish and the water in which they swim. This spiritual bond is the basis for the universal transmission of the ultimate Law of life and death. Herein lies the true goal of Nichiren's propagation. When you are so united, even the great desire for widespread propagation [kosen-rufu] can be fulfilled. (WND-1, 217)

"The Soka Gakkai and Soka Gakkai International have built a solid realm of shared commitment to realising the vow for kosen-rufu, united in the spirit of 'many in body, one in mind,' in perfect accord with the Daishonin's words.
"Only within this miraculous harmony will the true heritage of the ultimate Law of life and death from Nichiren Daishonin flow on into the eternal future. Our harmonious unity can pave the way for the harmony and peaceful coexistence of all humankind. This I declare as the third president of the Soka Gakkai, who has inherited and protected the organisation that was the very life of both our first and second presidents, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi and Josei Toda."
