"... although Nichiren and his followers are few, because they are different in body, but united in mind, they will definitely accomplish their great mission of widely propagating the Lotus Sutra."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The Daishonin concluded one of his letter to the lay priest of Ko and his wife, the lay nun of Ko—disciples who lived on faraway Sado Island, 'No place is secure. Be convinced that Buddhahood is the final abode' (WND-1, 491). Where is our final abode, our sweet home, our safe haven? It is here. It is within us. The state of Buddhahood that we bring forth in our own lives is our eternal safe haven.

"External circumstances do not determine our peace of mind. No matter how wonderful a home we may live in, if we are sad and lonely, we cannot be said to be at ease or leading a happy life. Even if our present circumstances are good, there is no guarantee that they will continue that way forever. Only the 'palace' of peace and security that we build within our own life through our Buddhist practice is eternal."

SGI Newsletter No. 9302, The Wisdom for Creating Happiness and Peace, Part 2: Human Revolution, Chapter 13: "You Will Grow Younger, and Your Good Fortune Will Accumulate," 13.4 Building an "Eternal Palace" in Our Lives, from the September 2015 issue of the Daibyakurenge, translation released 2nd Oct. 2015

-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The key to helping people become capable responsible people
is to support and praise them in their efforts
and help them to cultivate their strengths.
It's important to get to know our fellow members well
and to wholeheartedly encourage them in a way
that will penetrate and move their hearts!

"Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life, and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens. How could this be anything other than the boundless joy of the Law? Strengthen your power of faith more than ever."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"For many years in South Africa, where Mr. Mandela grew up, there was an unjust law that said white people were superior to black people. Mr. Mandela stood up as a youthful leader to change his country into a 'rainbow nation' where all people are treasured equally and could live with dreams and goals.

"For this, he was mistreated repeatedly and had his freedom taken away. But he was not defeated under any circumstances. He eventually won his freedom back, became the first black president of South Africa, and realised his dream.

"Most people thought it would be impossible or incredibly difficult to eliminate the racial discrimination that had existed in South Africa for decades. But Mandela had determined in his heart that it could definitely be done.

"People who refuse to give up have hope. And because they have hope, they are able to continue making efforts. Such individuals spread hope to those around them."

A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends"
published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more.

Tuesday, Oct 27th, 2015
-- TO MY FRIENDS --
We unleash our strengths
when we persist in our endeavours.
Every small step we take and every effort we make
to keep advancing, even if it is a little,
helps us to get closer to a glorious victory.
Let's win by leaving no room for regrets
in what we do today!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Therefore, one should by all means persist in preaching the Lotus Sutra and causing them to hear it. Those who put their faith in it will surely attain Buddhahood, while those who slander it will establish a "poison-drum relationship" with it and will likewise attain Buddhahood."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Discarding one's faith in the Mystic Law is wilfully straying from the path of happiness. It is the cause for all kinds of misery and misfortune. The Daishonin keenly understood the main reason why people stopped practising: cowardice.

"That's why he warns against succumbing to cowardice, writing: 'Be . . . fearless' (WND-1, 498); 'You should not have the slightest fear in your heart' (WND-1, 637); and 'No matter how many terrible enemies you may encounter, banish all fears and never think of backsliding' (WND-1, 395). He is determined to prevent even a single disciple from discarding faith and takes great pains to ensure that each and every one of them becomes happy.

Many of the Daishonin's followers abandoned their faith while he was exiled in Sado Island. Among them were learned Buddhist priests and wealthy lay practitioners. They were individuals who should have stood as models for their fellow believers and protected and supported them. But they gave in to cowardice and cast aside their faith in order to protect their own social status, reputation, and wealth instead of protecting the correct teaching of Buddhism and defending the Daishonin."

Our efforts to talk to others about this Buddhism

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"When practitioners of the Lotus Sutra endeavour to propagate its teachings in the real world, great opposition arises, a manifestation of the function of the devil king of the sixth heaven that resides in people's lives.

"Those who are awakened to the dignity of life and inherent goodness of human beings courageously take action for the happiness of themselves and others. In contrast, those who do not have faith in the enormous potential and inner goodness of human beings deny the dignity of others. People whose lives are ruled by the insidiously manipulative workings of the devil king of the sixth heaven attack people to prevent them from becoming happy through faith in the Mystic Law.

"The Lotus Sutra teaches that all people are precious and irreplaceable, everyone equally possessing the right to fully realise their unique individuality and become happy. Those who have awakened to this truth cannot but take a stand against evils that devalue life and violate human rights.

"The only way to defeat the forces that regard people with contempt is for each person to carry out human revolution, thereby spreading the philosophy of respect for life and human dignity."
