-- TO MY FRIENDS --
"I, Nichiren, am the first to embark on propagating"*
It's from taking action with a vow to stand alone
that the expansion of kosen-rufu begins.
"To take the initiative/to be the pioneer,
the path opener"
is the very spirit of the SGI.

*"Now, at the beginning of the Latter Day of the Law, I, Nichiren, am the first to embark on propagating, throughout Jambudvīpa, the five characters of Myoho-renge-kyo, which are the heart of the Lotus Sutra and the eye of all Buddhas." - "The Actions of the Votary of the Lotus Sutra", WND-I, page 764

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Forbearance is the Land of Eternally Tranquil Light. This mind of forbearance is called Shakyamuni Buddha."

(Chapter Twenty-one:
Supernatural Powers of the Thus Come One
- The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings,
page 169)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"This passage from the Daishonin's writings 'Three things are required—a good teacher, a good believer, and a good teaching' was one that the Kansai members and I studied together as we embarked on the Osaka Campaign,[1] 60 years ago, in 1956. It was a daunting challenge that others claimed to be impossible. But we fought with all our might based on faith in the Mystic Law, which assures us of absolute victory if we unite as one with our mentor.

"When we make a vow to our mentor, hope and confidence well forth.

"When we chant with the same heart as our mentor, we can bring forth the courage and wisdom that resides within us.

"When we struggle together with our mentor, we can break through even the most overwhelming obstacles.

"In my youth, I committed myself to working alongside Mr. Toda and inherited this spirit of the oneness of mentor and disciple.

"Mr. Toda sternly declared:

'May the Soka Gakkai always be characterised by unceasing development and victory! To that end, we, its members, must display courage, conviction, and serious effort.

'It is vital that you win and remain undefeated. This is the formula for kosen-rufu. This is the way to lead a life of eternal victory—in other words, to attain Buddhahood.'"

SGI Newsletter No. 9501, The Buddhism of the Sun—Illuminating the World, [13] The Five Eternal Guidelines of the Soka Gakkai—Part 5 [of 5, ]"Faith for Absolute Victory"—Unceasing Development and Victory, from the May 2016 issue of the Daibyaku renge, translation released 30th Nov., 2016

[1] Osaka Campaign: In May 1956, the Kansai members, uniting around a young Daisaku Ikeda, who had been dispatched by second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda to support them, introduced 11,111 households to the practice of the Daishonin's Buddhism.
