published in the Seikyo Shinbun and more.

-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
There are always young people nearby.
Let's make a point of giving them a cheerful greeting.
The Daishonin teaches us,
"The seeds of Buddhahood sprout as a result of conditions."*
Let's enlarge the circle of empathy
for what our movement is trying to achieve
and call forth our fellow Bodhisattvas of the Earth!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"The neighing of the white horses is the sound of our voices chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. When Brahmā, Shakra, the gods of the sun and moon, the four heavenly kings, and the others hear this sound, how could they fail to take on a healthy color and shine with a brilliant light? How could they fail to guard and protect us? We should be firmly convinced of this!"

(King Rinda - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol. I, page 989)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"After referring to his own struggles against immense obstacles, the Daishonin notes three characteristics that define the faith and practice of practitioners of the Lotus Sutra that lead to absolute victory.

"The first is 'remaining unwavering in faith' (cf. WND-2, 460). This is resolute faith. It is the great vow to live one's life solidly based on the Mystic Law. It means not having the slightest doubt, hesitation, or fear in one's heart.

"Not advancing is retreating. Mr. Toda always warned against growing complacent in our faith and practice. He said:

"'The crucial question . . . is whether we are changing for the better or changing for the worse. When we fail to be aware of this, we give in to inertia. . . . Moreover, when we grow apathetic in faith, practising only out of force of habit, it's the same as if we have stopped practising altogether. Faith in Nichiren Buddhism is an active practice for rapidly changing ourselves for the better.

"Nichiren Buddhism focuses on the present and future. We must, therefore, concentrate on challenging ourselves here and now, for the sake of our present and future happiness.

"The important thing is to never allow ourselves to be defeated. Remaining undefeated is being unwavering. With a firm resolve never to falter, we can embark on a renewed struggle to achieve absolute victory."
