-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Young people who challenge to become
"bluer than the indigo"*
who are taking over the noble task
of achieving kosen-rufu in a new era,
are the hope for our local communities.
By believing in each one,
let's encourage them and grow together!

*A youth of challenge to become "bluer than the indigo" is found in the Soka Gakkai. The Daishonin writes: "The Lotus Sutra is like the indigo, and the strength of one's practice is like the deepening blue" (WND-1, 457).
Becoming "bluer than the indigo" means challenging ourselves with courage. It is the courageous challenge to keep breaking through our limitations and creating new value in our lives and in society. It is a demanding, difficult undertaking, but it will lead to a wonderful drama of human revolution, brimming with limitless fulfilment and growth.
(Ref.: SGI President Ikeda's editorial, November 2018)

The allegory of the indigo plant is often used to indicate the disciple growing to surpass the mentor or to describe how deepening one's practice leads to strengthening one's faith. This expression is based on a passage in the classical Chinese work titled "Hsün Tzu." "Great Concentration and Insight" reads, "From the indigo, an even deeper blue."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"'Even though one neither reads nor studies the [Lotus Sutra], chanting the title [Myoho-renge-kyo] alone is the source of tremendous good fortune. The sutra teaches that women, evil men and those in the realms of animals and hell—in fact, all the beings of the Ten Worlds—can attain Buddhahood in their present form.'

From 'The One essential Phrase' (WND-1, 923).

"Nichiren Buddhism it's a great, hope-filled philosophy that enables us to transform any negative karma, into mission. Through doing our human revolution by overcoming hardships, let's demonstrate the power of the Mystic Law to people around the world. When we take action to fulfil our vow as Bodhisattvas of the Earth, difficult obstacles become a springboard for victory.

"Viewed in the light of Nichiren Buddhism, all the sufferings and challenges we undergo are for the sake of attaining Buddhahood in this life time and realising lasting happiness.

"I hope you will each rouse courage and strive to attain the indestructible life state of Buddhahood."

Advancing with the Gosho, [52] Making a Vow to Transform Karma into Mission, from January 23rd, 2019 edition of Seiko Shinbun, translation released March 2019.

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"'Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy.. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life, and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens. How could this be anything other than the boundless joy of the Law? Strengthen your power of faith more than ever.'

From "Happiness in this World "(WND–1, 681).

"Perseverance is strength. Through a steadfast practice of morning and evening gongyo, we can manifest incredible power. Gongyo is the rhythm of happiness and victory, enabling us to experience the 'joy of the Law' as boundless as the universe itself.

"Life is full of ups and downs. But by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, regarding 'both suffering and joy as facts of life,' we can transform everything into a hope-filled drama of human revolution.

"Let's start the day with even stronger prayer, determined to win again today!"

Advancing with the Gosho (2), [51] Human Revolution Starts with a Steadfast Practice of Gongyo, from the January 19th, 2019 issue of the Seikyo Newspaper, translation released March 2019.
