-- TO MY FRIENDS --
There is nothing more powerful than the strong inner resolve
to realise the happiness of the people around us.
The Gosho says: "It is the heart that is important."*
Let's boldly, confidently and with sincere concern engage in conversation
with as many people as we possibly can!

—— DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
I am reminded of the story of one of Shakyamuni's followers, Kisa Gotami.[1]

Living in poverty, Kisa Gotami first lost her husband, and then death robbed her of her dearly beloved child as well. In grief and despair, carrying her dead child's body in her arms, she wandered through the town begging for someone to bring her child back to life. Eventually, she encountered Shakyamuni.

The Buddha said he would do as she wished, if she would go from house to house through the town and bring him a mustard seed. He added an important condition: the mustard seed must be from a family in which no one had died.

Kisa Gotami began her search, calling on one house after another. Several families had a mustard seed, but in each family someone had died. All the families had experienced the grief of losing a loved one.

Finally, it dawned on Kisa Gotami: she was not alone in experiencing the grief and pain of death.

The spirit of empathy awakens us to the fact that we are not alone and to a shared concern for others….

The point is, none of us is free of the sufferings of birth, ageing, sickness, and death. At the same time, each and every one of us possesses the Buddha nature—the infinite potential within life that enables us to fundamentally overcome that suffering. Opening our eyes to this universal truth is the first step to liberation from suffering.
