--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Today there are people who have faith in the Lotus Sutra. The belief
of some is like fire while that of others is like water. When the
former listen to the teachings, their passion flares up like fire, but
as time goes on, they tend to discard their faith. To have faith like
water means to believe continuously without ever regressing."

—— DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Many delight in seeing beautiful flowers in bloom, but few perhaps give thought to the roots sunk deep into the ground, providing support, stability, and nourishment to those flowers. The roots are vital for the flowers to flourish.

"The German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832) sang of the pride of plants sending down solid roots, unseen beneath the earth:

"'I am anchored
deep in the ground;
hence my flowers,
so beautifully round.'[1]

"In life, too, the roots of perseverance—forged through bravely weathering the cold winters of adversity and staying determined to triumph—eventually produce glorious spring flowers of joy.

"Let us take pride in the fact that, year after year—through living our lives based on the Mystic Law and challenging all kinds of personal problems, such as economic hardship, difficulties at work, sickness, or nursing a family member—we are putting down roots that will bring us infinite good fortune and benefit."

SGI Newsletter No. 8869, Accumulating Good Fortune in Our Lives, from the December 2013 issue of the Daibyakurenge, translated 15th Nov. 2013
