-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The Gosho reminds us to respect people,
"rising and greeting them from afar
and showing them the same respect we would a Buddha.*"
Let's always remember to appreciate
the valiant efforts of our fellow members.
It's by having respect for one another
and advancing together while encouraging each other,
that true unity and solidarity is born.
*Gosho: "The Fourteen Slanders", WND-1, Page 757, "Even an ignorant person can obtain blessings by serving someone who expounds the Lotus Sutra. No matter if he is a demon or an animal, if someone proclaims even a single verse or phrase of the Lotus Sutra, you must respect him as you would the Buddha. This is what the sutra means when it says, "You should rise and greet him from afar, showing him the same respect you would a Buddha."You should respect one another as Shakyamuni and Many Treasures did at the ceremony in the "Treasure Tower" chapter."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"In 'Letter from Sado,' the Daishonin observes: 'The most dreadful things in the world are the pain of fire, the flashing of swords, and the shadow of death' (WND-1, 301). Even today, people around the world live in fear of violence and war, shudder at destruction caused by natural disasters and accidents, and are racked by the sufferings of birth, ageing, sickness, and death.
"That is precisely why we of the SGI, who share the great vow of Nichiren Daishonin, the Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law, need to press ahead with ever greater energy in our courageous and sincere efforts to transform the destiny of humankind."
