-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The Daishonin encourages us,
"I entrust you with the propagation
of Buddhism in your province."*
By chanting daimoku with perseverance
and challenging ourselves without ever giving up,
let's achieve a monumental victory for kosen-rufu
in our local area where our noble mission
is to be fulfiledl!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"This passage is saying that if in a single moment of life we exhaust the pains and trials of millions of kalpas, then instant after instant there will arise in us the three Buddha bodies with which we are eternally endowed. Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is just such a 'diligent' practice."

(The Essential Passage in Each of the Twenty-eight Chapters of the Lotus Sutra, Emerging from the Earth
- The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, page 214)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"In its early days, the Soka Gakkai was disparaged in Japanese society as 'a gathering of the sick and poor.' Undeterred, our members strove wholeheartedly to share Nichiren Buddhism with others. They were filled with the pride of dedicating their lives to the lofty mission of realising kosen-rufu and the Daishonin's ideal of 'establishing the correct teaching for the peace of the land.'

"Of course, not everyone was aware of their mission or understood the Daishonin's teachings right from the very beginning. People threw themselves into their Buddhist practice, desperate to transform their personal karma of poverty, sickness, family discord, or other problems. Over time, they came to pray for the happiness of others as well as their own, and to take action to benefit others and society. While sharing joys and sufferings with their fellow members, they gradually awakened to their mission as Bodhisattvas of the Earth dedicated to kosen-rufu. They developed the awareness that they were members of the Soka Gakkai, an organisation serving as the pillar of the country, the eyes of the world, and the great ship of humankind.

"Our pride as Soka Gakkai members is that each of us has taken on the mission to serve as a central pillar.

"Nichiren Buddhism is a teaching that empowers people, helping them change from passively seeking relief from their own problems and sufferings to being able to offer support and encouragement to others, becoming the pillars, eyes, and great ships of the world. The Soka Gakkai is fostering capable individuals around the world who are serving as the pillars of the people, the eyes of happiness, and the great ships of hope.

"This is the greatest proof that Nichiren Buddhism is the religion of human revolution, and the genuine example of a religion that exists for the happiness of human beings, which is so needed in the 21st century.

"In Nichiren Buddhism, each person becomes an agent for change. When each individual becomes the pillar, eyes, and great ship for building peace and happiness, this will give rise to a magnificent global civilisation marked by a brilliant flowering of the philosophy of respect for others."
