---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The Daishonin declares that fundamental darkness or ignorance can be vanquished with the 'sharp sword' of faith—in other words, belief that is free of doubt (cf. OTT, 119–20).
"Fundamental darkness or ignorance is the most basic kind of delusion or negativity—the inability to believe that the Buddha nature is inherent within our own lives. It is essentially tantamount to not being able to believe in the dignity of our own life. If we are unable to believe in our own Buddha nature, it naturally follows that we won't be able to believe in the Buddha nature of others, either.
"Science and technology, however advanced they may become, cannot solve this problem. In today's world, where mistrust and hatred are all too prevalent, Nichiren Buddhism teaches us how to make the supremely noble life state inherent within us shine forth, help others do the same, and create a life of true joy. Faith in the Mystic Law is the 'sharp sword' that conquers the fundamental darkness inherent in life."
