-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
Let's take the opportunity to
give cheerful seasonal greetings
that truly convey our warm wishes!
The Daishonin teaches us,
"The seeds of Buddhahood sprout
as a result of conditions."*
Let's take every chance we get to nurture good relations
with our friends, neighbours and relatives,
and help them to connect to Buddhism!
*"I entrust you with the propagation of Buddhism in your province. It is stated that 'the seeds of Buddhahood sprout as a result of conditions, and for this reason they preach the single vehicle.'" -
"The Properties of Rice", WND-I, page 1117

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"I am praying that, no matter how troubled the times may become, the Lotus Sutra and the ten demon daughters will protect all of you, praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground."
(On Rebuking Slander of the Law and Eradicating Sins
- WND, Vol. 1, page 444)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Being united around a lofty shared objective is crucial. The precious organisation of kosen-rufu absolutely must not be destroyed. Construction requires tenacious and painstaking effort, while destruction takes but an instant.
"A good example of the importance of unity can be seen in the struggles of the Ikegami brothers, Munenaka and Munenaga. It is well known how their father, Yasumitsu, had disowned the elder Munenaka [for practising the Daishonin's Buddhism], and how his actions had been instigated by the priest Ryokan of Gokuraku-ji temple.
"Having disowned his elder son, Yasumitsu began taking steps to have his younger son Munenaga succeed him as head of the household. Munenaga became troubled over whether he should accept his father's proposal or choose the way of faith. In the end, he received encouragement from the Daishonin and acted in concert with his elder brother.
"The Daishonin clearly discerned that unity was the key to the Ikegami brothers overcoming the challenge they faced. He taught them that they could defeat the devilish functions by joining together, along with their wives, to present a united front. 'Letter to the Brothers' concludes with the Daishonin's instruction for them to forge strong unity."
