-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Buddhism teaches the principle of
"like the lotus flower in the water."*
Just like the lotus
growing in the muddy swamp
brings forth beautiful blossoms,
let's show actual proof
of the true happiness that we can attain
and the outstanding victories
that we can achieve in the midst of
the difficult and harsh realities of life!
The essential foundation for doing so
is chanting daimoku!

*"The sutra says, '[They are] unsoiled by worldly things like the lotus flower in the water.  Emerging from the earth . . .'  Here we see that the Bodhisattvas of the Earth are the lotus of the entity of the Mystic Law, and that the lotus is being used here as a simile." -
"The Entity of the Mystic Law", WND-I, page 431

"Life is a battle with our problems and karma.  However, in the same way that the lotus growing in a muddy swamp brings forth pure and fragrant blossoms, we can bring happiness and victory to bloom in our lives and help others do the same.  This is the way of the Bodhisattvas of the Earth whose lives are 'like the lotus flower in the water.'  Those who sincerely chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and actually spread the Mystic Law in society brim with the great life force of Buddhas and bodhisattvas.  Each of you, our noble members, is an entity of the Mystic Law.  Please remember that, no matter where you are, that is the place for you to fulfill your mission from time without beginning." (Ref.: SGI President Ikeda's guidance, World
Tribune, September 16, 2011, issue)

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Strengthen your faith day by day and month after month. Should you slacken in your resolve even a bit, devils will take advantage."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"We are all Buddhas. Therefore, to criticise another is to do the same to a Buddha. Because we are all Buddhas, we should respect one another. It is important that the Soka Gakkai brim with the spirit described in the passage, 'You should rise and greet him from afar, showing him the same respect you would a Buddha' (LSOC28, 365).

"The Daishonin goes so far as to say that when people get into the habit of criticising others: 'They never rid themselves of this wrong attitude, so they seem to be destined for the evil paths' (WND-1, 757). Therefore, he says: 'You should respect one another [as Buddhas]' (WND-1, 757). He also asserts that we should be on good terms with one another, just like Shakyamuni and Many Treasures, who in the 'Treasure Tower' (11th) chapter of the Lotus Sutra share a seat."
