"By facing the Gohonzon and chanting the daimoku of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which is the living essence of Nichiren Daishonin and the eye of all Buddhas, we can call forth the Nam-myoho-renge-kyo that exists within our own lives and are able to manifest the life-force of the Mystic Law, which is the ultimate Law of the universe.
"In his commentary on the Daishonin's treatise 'The Object of Devotion for Observing the Mind,' Nichikan Shonin (1665-1726), a great restorer of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism, writes: 'When one embraces faith in this Gohonzon and chants Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, one's life itself at that moment becomes the object of devotion [Gohonzon] that embodies the three thousand realms in a single life-moment. It becomes the life of Nichiren Daishonin.'
"The daimoku of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the ultimate teaching that enables us to dispel the darkness of ignorance and bring forth the same boundless life-state of Buddhahood as the Daishonin. It makes it possible for us to manifest the wise and compassionate life-state of Buddhahood and develop indestructible happiness, and also help others do the same. The Daishonin established this essential teaching for the enlightenment of all people in the form of the faith and practice of the daimoku of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo."
