-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Recently, there has been an increasing number of accidents
involving bicycles.
Let's all be extra careful on wet roads during this rainy season.
Please also remember that using a mobile phone or umbrella
while riding a bicycle is strictly forbidden!
The only way for us to prevent accidents
is to proactively remind each other of such important facts,
during meetings and other get-togethers, over and over again!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"The sutra texts tell us that a single person in the course of a single day has eight million four thousand thoughts. And all of these various thoughts produce karma that will lead to rebirth in the three evil paths."
(On the Attainment of Buddhahood by Women - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.2, page 307)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The crucial thing in our struggle against the three obstacles and four devils is to always remain on the offensive, ready to vanquish negative functions when they appear. In his letters to the Ikegami brothers, the Daishonin writes: 'Be...fearless' (WND-1, 498); 'You must not falter in the least' (WND-2, 597); and 'You should not have the slightest fear in your heart' (WND-1, 637). If we're passive and retreat, the devilish functions will only intensify; but if we switch to the offensive and keep up our struggle against them with powerful daimoku, they will scatter at the sound of our fearless lion's roar.

"Ultimately, courageous faith is indispensable in the struggle against devilish functions. A readiness to keep exerting oneself--a firm and unwavering resolve--is important. This is why the Daishonin instructs the younger Ikegami brother Munenaga: 'In the final analysis, what you should do is resolve to pursue the Buddha way single-mindedly just as your [elder] brother is doing' (WND-1, 637); 'You should resolve to give [your all]' (cf. WND-1, 639); 'You must raise your voice all the more and admonish [those who slander]' (WND-2, 597); and 'You should confront your father and declare [your position to him]' (WND-1, 637).

"The struggle against devilish functions polishes and deepens our faith. And with the 'sharp sword' of faith that we have polished through such trials, we can triumph over all obstacles and negative workings. That strong faith, that dauntless spirit, is the very essence of the life-state of Buddhahood. Through our efforts to forge a solid, unshakable self through our Buddhist practice and realise our human revolution, we can gain brilliant and indestructible experiences in faith that will inspire our fellow members around the globe, and will continue to be retold and passed on down through the generations."
SGI Newsletter No. 8247, LEARNING FROM THE WRITINGS OF NICHIREN DAISHONIN: THE TEACHINGS FOR VICTORY, [27] 'A Father Takes Faith,' Unity and Human Revolution Are the Keys to Victory in Our Efforts for Kosen-rufu, from the April 2011 issue of the Daibyakurenge, translated June 6th, 2011.
