-- TO MY FRIENDS --
In a wet or rainy season like now here in Japan,
it is vital that we look after our health more carefully than usual.
Especially, we must be careful about food poisoning
(most bacteria quickly multiplies in moist conditions).
At the same time, let's make it a rule
that we often wash our hands, etc. to again prevent illness.
Taking every possible precaution, exercising "your usual prudence,"(*)
is an important part of staying healthy.

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Monnet, French economist and diplomat Jean Monnet (1888-1979), said: 'The course of events must be altered. To do this, [people's] attitudes must be changed.' And recognising also that words alone are not enough, he declared: 'Only immediate action on an essential point can change the present static situation. This action must be radical, real, immediate and dramatic.' What is needed is bold, practical, and spot-on action. He also stressed the need for 'continuation and repetition' of painstaking efforts to bring about change. This is how Monnet summed up the guiding spirit that informed his own tireless efforts throughout his life. His words reflect a philosophy with very profound implications. In other words, once we embark on an undertaking, we must continue making steadfast efforts. We must keep trying, keep challenging ourselves again and again, without giving up. Every great achievement in history has been accomplished through this very simple, yet rock-solid commitment."
