A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week"
published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more.

August 10th - 17th, 2014
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
Let's always try to exchange bright positive greetings
that will open doors to new friendships.
The Daishonin teaches us,
"The voice carries out the work of Buddha."*
By continually making an effort to have
heart-to-heart communication with others,
let's develop friendship and trust with
as many people as possible!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"A passage in the Six Pāramitās Sutra says to become the master of your mind rather than let your mind master you."

(Letter to the Brothers- The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, page 502) Selection source: "Kyo no Hosshin", Seikyo Shimbun, August 10th, 2014

Monday, August 11th, 2014
---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Affirming young people's pure-hearted wish to grow, helping them achieve their full potential, respecting their desire for personal development, and praising and warmly supporting them towards that endthese are the keys to fostering youth.

"...we cannot teach others by trying to coerce or dictate to them from a position of superiority. When one oils the wheels, a cart can go forwards in spite of its heavy weight. When one floats a boat on water, it can sail ahead easily. These are both examples of assisting or facilitating smooth forward movement.

"In other words, the important point is to make it easy for someone to move forwards, while recognising that it is up to that individual to actually do the moving forwards. Wdon't take upon ourselves the challenges that are theirs to overcome."
