-- TO MY FRIENDS --
To all of our Tokaido fellow members,*
who burn with the shared commitment
to achieving kosen-rufu with me,
let's start a new journey to climb
to the peak of the vow that we made together!
With a lion's roar for "justice and the truth,"
let's break open the dawn of a new era!

*Tokaido Soka Gakkai includes Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures, Japan.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Therefore, those who become Nichiren's disciples and lay believers should realise the profound karmic relationship they share with him and spread the Lotus Sutra as he does. Being known as a votary of the Lotus Sutra is a bitter, yet unavoidable, destiny."

(Letter to Jakunichi-bō - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, page 994)

—— DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Through devoting ourselves honestly to SGI activities, we gain the ability to turn all difficulties and obstacles we face into benefit, recognising that "earthly desires lead to enlightenment" and "the sufferings of birth and death lead to nirvana." No matter how unpleasant the circumstances we find ourselves in, we can transform them into hope and good fortune, into eternal happiness. . . .

"Nichikan Shonin (1665-1726), the renowned restorer of the Daishonin's Buddhism, assures us: "if you have faith in the Gohonzon and chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo even for a short while, no payer will go unanswered, no offense unexpiated, no good fortune unbestowed, and no righteousness unproven."[1]

"Yet,why is it, then, that sometimes it seems our prayers aren't answered? This is a manifestation of the Buddha's wisdom—functioning so that we can deepen our prayers, become stronger people, live more profound lives, and secure deeper and more lasting good fortune. If our every, slightest prayer were answered immediately, we'd become lazy and complacent, and we couldn't hope to build a life of great meaning and substance. . . .

"If prayers were automatically answered with no true, deep prayer or wholehearted effort on our part, we would simply become smug and self-satisfied. If that's how it worked, our practice of Buddhism would not make us into people of outstanding character, it would bring about our ruin. . . .

"The essence is this: if what you are praying for will truly contribute to your happiness and to your becoming a better person, it will be answered without fail. Even if you don't see the result immediately, it will in time become apparent.

"Let's all set our sights on leading great lives always dedicated to truth, and move towards that goal in good health and brimming with hope. Let us live our lives boldly and without regret, advancing with patients, enthusiasm and a genuine spirit of friendship and camaraderie. . . .

"I will chant for your happiness with all my heart. I wish you good health and success in your endeavours. Stay well!"
