A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Shinbun and more March 30th - April 5th, 2015 -- WORDS OF THE WEEK -- The Daishonin encourages us, "Strive ever harder in faith, (and never give in to negligence.)"* It's through chanting daimoku with unyielding determination and taking courageous action with an indomitable spirit that we move the buddhas and gods. With perseverance and the unity of our camaraderie, let's open the way for the SGI movement to fully bloom! *"Letter to Niike" - WND-I, page 1027 Monday, March 30th, 2015 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "It is the heart that is important. No matter how earnestly Nichiren prays for you, if you lack faith, it will be like trying to set fire to wet tinder. Spur yourself to muster the power of faith." (The Strategy of the Lotus Sutra - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.1, page 1000) Selection source: "Kyo no Hosshin," Seikyo Shimbun, March 30th, 2015 Tuesday, March 31st, 2015 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "'Your illness is surely not due to karma, but even if it were, you could rely on the power of the Lotus Sutra [Nam-myoho-renge-kyo] to cure it. King Ajatashatru extended his life by forty years by embracing the Lotus Sutra. Ch'en Chen [an older brother of the Great Teacher T'ien-t'ai] added fifteen years to his life.' - From "The Bow and Arrow" (WND-1, 656). "Founding Soka Gakkai president Tsunesaburo Makiguchi treasured this passage and often used it to encourage those who were struggling with illness. "None of us can avoid sickness. But the Daishonin assures us that we can rely on the power of the Lotus Sutra, or the Mystic Law. It's important not to be pessimistic or give in to defeat, but rather to vanquish the devil of illness with the powerful lion's roar of daimoku. "Illness provides an opportunity for us to triumphantly attain the lofty life state of Buddhahood, to manifest clear benefit of prolonging our lives through faith. "My wife and I are chanting fervently each day that all our dear fellow members around the world will enjoy long, healthy, and fulfilling lives." SGI Newsletter No. 9223, Living the Gosho: Words of Encouragement from, (52), Winning Over Illness with the Power of the Mystic Law, from 26th March, 2015, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translation released 26th March, 2015 * The Japanese kanji is available by clicking on Seikyo Shinbun's web-site address at http://www.seikyoonline.jp/news/index. -- KONSHU NO KOTOBA -- "IYOIYO HAGEMASE TAMAUBESHI" FUKUTSU NO INORI TO KODO GA BUTTEN O YURIUGOKASU.
