[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] 12-19 Nov. 2019 Words of the Week and Daily Gosho plus 13 Nov. Daily Encouragement

* Just to let you know ahead of time, there is a Japanese press holiday tomorrow to let all those involved in publishing and delivering a newspaper have a short rest so there will not be any To My Friends. BUT as you know we don't let that get in our way, Daily Gosho and Encouragement will still continue!...

A translation of "The Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Shinbun based on President Ikeda's recent guidance, and more.

November 12th - 19th, 2017
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
The Daishonin states,
"The daimoku of the Lotus Sutra
is like the roar of a lion."*
By having an unceasing practice
of doing gongyo
and chanting daimoku,
let's summon forth
the great power of life from within!
Glory and success are achieved based on
our continuation of the basics (of the practice).

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"And yet, though one might point at the earth and miss it, though one might bind up the sky, though the tides might cease to ebb and flow and the sun rise in the west, it could never come about that the prayers of the practitioner of the Lotus Sutra would go unanswered."

(On Prayer
- WND, Vol. 1, page 345)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Anger isn't inherently bad. It's important to feel anger against wrongdoing. Without such anger, there would be no justice. The problem is when anger causes you to grow lax in your Buddhist practice.

"Let's say, for example, that you have a problematic leader, someone who behaves irresponsibly and is constantly causing trouble for everyone. Observing this, you feel indignant. That's natural. But if it causes you to stop doing activities and going to meetings, you will have been defeated by the devilish function of anger.

"Persevering in your Buddhist practice so that you can carry out your human revolution and attain Buddhahood in this lifetime is essentially unrelated to poor behaviour by leaders. It's vital to overcome the tendency to justify slackening off in your Buddhist practice by blaming others."
