-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Let's always try to be considerate
and pay careful attention
especially to those closest to us
and the people in our immediate surroundings.
Just a few kind and caring words
or even just a single thoughtful action,
enriches the heart to heart bonds
between us a great deal.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"If in a single moment of life we exhaust the pains and trials of millions of kalpas, then instant after instant there will arise in us the three Buddha bodies with which we are eternally endowed. Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is just such a 'diligent' practice."
(The Essential Passage in Each of the Twenty-eight Chapters of the
Lotus Sutra, Emerging from the Earth chapter
- ROTT, page 214)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"What are the so-called ten kinds of troops led by the devil king of the sixth heaven? They are ten kinds of hindrances, listed in the great Indian Buddhist scholar Nagarjuna's The Treatise on the Great Perfection of Wisdom as: (1) greed, (2) discouragement, (3) hunger and thirst, (4) craving, (5) sleepiness, (6) fear, (7) doubt and regret, (8) anger, (9) preoccupation with fame, fortune, and false glory, and (10) arrogance and contempt for others.
"The first, greed, is being swayed by desires and allowing that to destroy your faith.
"The second, discouragement, means being overcome by worry and sadness to the extent that you stop making efforts in faith.
"The third, hunger and thirst, is being so hungry and thirsty that you can't do anything. It means experiencing a hunger so intense that you don't have the physical energy to do Soka Gakkai activities. It's the mentality that thinks, 'I'm just not up to doing activities. I may as well give up.'
"The fourth, craving, refers to powerful desire, like desperately wishing for water when you are parched. It's being so dominated by attachment that you can't control it, even if you know it's not good for you. In the end, it leads to discarding your faith."
SGI Newsletter No. 9734, The New Human Revolution––Vol. 27: Chap. 3, Fierce Struggle 32, translation released Nov. 2nd, 2017
