I pray that you will embrace the Mystic Law, which guarantees that people 'will enjoy peace and security in their present existence and good circumstances in future existences." This is the only glory that you need seek in your present lifetime, and is the action that will draw you towards Buddhahood in your next existence. Single-mindedly chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and urge others to do the same; that will remain as the only memory of your present life in this human world."

"The ninth troop—preoccupation with fame, fortune, and false glory—is being so focused on attaining wealth and renown that you think lightly of your Buddhist practice and end up straying from the path leading to Buddhahood.
"The more you are driven by hunger for material gain, the more impoverished and empty you will become spiritually. The obsession with wealth is also at work in the case of someone who causes money problems in the Soka Gakkai.
"In seeking renown, people tend to forget that fame and social status are transient and ephemeral when viewed from the perspective of the eternity of life. It's foolish to become obsessed with them and neglect your faith.
"To give another example, say that new leadership appointments are made and someone is moved from a central position to a vice position. If that person views this as an affront, harbours jealousy toward the newly appointed central leader, and loses interest in taking part in Gakkai activities, then he or she is being ruled by the devilish function of preoccupation with fame. Our practice of Nichiren Buddhism is a struggle to defeat such tendencies."
