"'One becomes aware of the Buddha vehicle within oneself and enters the palace of oneself. Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is what is meant by entering the palace of oneself.

"Mr. Makiguchi regarded this passage from the Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings as extremely important. It teaches that we all possess the Buddha nature within our lives, and that by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, we can instantly bring forth our Buddhahood and attain a state of supreme happiness.
"The "palace of oneself " (OTT, 209) referred to here is the Buddha nature that exists without question within each of us. It is not an artificial palace adorned with the external trappings of wealth, fame, or power.
"It is, rather, an indestructible palace of inviolable happiness and more precious than all the treasures of the universe. It exists equally within the lives of all living beings, without discrimination or distinction of any kind. This is the foundation of the principle of respect for the dignity of the life taught in Nichiren Buddhism.
"The happiness we seek should be absolute happiness, which nothing can destroy. Such happiness is obtained by entering "the palace of oneself " (OTT, 209) and bringing forth our inner Buddahood."
