---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Attaining Buddhahood doesn't mean becoming someone or something different than what we are. After gaining enlightenment, Shakyamuni didn't become superhuman--he was and always remained a human being. Becoming a Buddha doesn't mean that all life's sufferings disappear. No life is free from suffering. As long as we remain alive, we are engaged in a constant struggle with hardship.

"In fact, the heart of our Buddhist practice is chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and struggling ceaselessly against devilish functions and the innate ignorance or darkness in life—which is the fundamental source of all suffering--in order to lead others to happiness. In each moment of that struggle, our Buddha nature emerges. That is the essence of the teaching that 'ordinary people are identical with the highest level of being' (OTT, 22), the affirmation that we can reveal the state of Buddahood in our lives, just as we are. It is the Buddhist teaching that brilliantly opens the way for people to overcome the fundamental sufferings of birth, ageing, sickness, and death. This is the true essence of a religion that exists for the happiness of human beings."

The Buddhism of the Sun - Illuminating the World, (25) A Religion of Human revolution - Part 5, "Buddha Is Another Name for One Who Keeps Striving, from the May edition of the Daibyakurenge 2017, translation released January 2018 .
