"'A single life is worth more than the major world system.* You [the lay nun Toki] still have many years ahead of you, and moreover you have encountered the Lotus Sutra. If you live even one day longer, you can accumulate that much more benefit.

"Here, Nichiren Daishonin offers his wholehearted encouragement to the lay nun Toki, who was suffering from a protracted illness. He assures her that she is still young, that she has faith in the Mystic Law and that she has the support of her family, fellow practitioners and an excellent physician. In this way, he imparts boundless hope and courage to this sincere disciple who had allowed herself to become disheartened by her situation.
"Summoning even greater determination to live your life to the fullest, defeat the devil of illness with the lions roar of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo! May you continue to accumulate benefit as fast as the universe day after day."
