"'The Buddha of the true aspect of reality resides in the midst of the mud and mire of earthly desires. This refers to us living beings.
'Now when Nichiren and his followers chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, they may be termed the Buddha of the Lotus that is the entity of the Law.'

"Founding Soka Gakkai president Tsunesaburo Makiguchi underlined this passage, regarding it as very important. He dove into the mud and mire of society amid World War II and taught his suffering fellow citizens how they could bring the 'Lotus that is the entity of the Law" to flower in their lives—that is, to reveal their inherent Buddhahood.
"The deeper the darkness, the closer the dawn. With the sun of hope blazing in our hearts, let's warmly encourage those around us, relieving suffering and imparting joy. Let's engage in dialogue aimed at realising the Daishonin's ideal of 'establishing the correct teaching for the peace of the land' to illuminate our confused and troubled times. It is here that our innate Buddhahood shines brightly."
