-- TO MY FRIENDS --
It's especially true
when we are busy with work
or other things in life
that we need to carefully use our wisdom
and work in close coordination with each other!
It's through the efforts that we make
at such busy times,
to still coordinate well with others,
that the momentum for the expansion
of our movement is born!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"[This is an incomparably greater wonder than] fire being produced by a stone taken from the bottom of a river, or a lantern lighting up a place that has been dark for a hundred, a thousand, or ten thousand years."

(The One Essential Phrase
- WND, Vol. 1, page 923)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"When he writes, 'like Nichiren, for example' (WND-1, 302), the Daishonin is calling on his disciples to look at his example. Amid life-threatening persecution, he stands calmly with the towering life state of Buddhahood. Through his own example, he urges his disciples to follow him on this great path of a lion king.

"We, the mentors and disciples of Soka, have persevered straight ahead on this path. Seeing through the chaotic upsurge of the 'three obstacles and four devils'[1] for what it is, we have roused strong faith. When faced with difficulties, we have immediately tackled the situation with the firm determination to change poison into medicine. Summoning the 'heart of a lion king,' we have fearlessly confronted adversity, ready to take on any challenge. We have also transformed opponents into allies, and turned headwinds into tailwinds that lift us higher. In each struggle, we have practised in accord with the Buddha's teachings and read the Gosho with our lives.

"There is an unforgettable moment I would like to share. It took place at the Shiki Chapter General Meeting at the Toshima Civic Hall in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, in October 1954, which I attended as the youth division leader of staff.

"At the meeting, Mr. Toda said he was disappointed that, although we were making progress in kosen-rufu, the three powerful enemies had not yet made their appearance. But the first and second of these [arrogant lay people and arrogant priests], he said, were beginning to emerge, and he stated with confidence that when the third of the three powerful enemies—arrogant false sages—appeared, the time for kosen-rufu will have arrived.

"'When it appears,' he said, 'I'll be delighted, and I hope all of you will be happy as well. When that time comes, let's fight bravely!'[2]

"This fighting spirit, which regards meeting obstacles as an honour, is the Soka Gakkai spirit, directly linked to Nichiren Daishonin. Let us, too, fight bravely and steadfastly and win without fail—for the sake of attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime and realising the Daishonin's ideal of 'establishing the correct teaching for the peace of the land.'"

SGI Newsletter No. 9552, SGI President Ikeda's Study Lecture Series, The Buddhism of the Sun—Illuminating the World, [15] Basing Ourselves on the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin—Part 2 [of 2], Following the Daishonin's Example, from the July 2016 issue of the Daibyakurenge, translation released 17th Feb., 2017

[1] The three obstacles and four devils are various obstacles and hindrances to the practice of Buddhism. The three obstacles are (1) the obstacle of earthly desires, (2) the obstacle of karma, and (3) the obstacle of retribution. The four devils are (1) the hindrance of the five components, (2) the hindrance of earthly desires, (3) the hindrance of death, and (4) the hindrance of the devil king.
