A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more. Friday, Apr 10th, 2015 -- TO MY FRIENDS -- The Gosho reminds us of the importance of "praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood."* Our practice is all about embodying an indomitable spirit. With powerful daimoku, let's spring back from any adversity! *Gosho: On Rebuking Slander of the Law and Eradicating Sins - WND1, pg. 444, "I am praying that, no matter how troubled the times may become, the Lotus Sutra and the ten demon daughters will protect all of you, praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground." Friday, Apr 10th, 2015 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "I will be the pillar of Japan. I will be the eyes of Japan. I will be the great ship of Japan. This is my vow, and I will never forsake it!" (The Opening of the Eyes - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Volume 1, page 280) Selection source: "Kyo no Hosshin", Seikyo Shimbun, April 10th, 2015 Saturday, Apr 11th, 2015 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "Nichiren Daishonin writes: 'Just as all the different kinds of plants and trees come forth from the earth, so all the various teachings of the Buddha are spread by persons' (WND-1, 61). The districts and groups of the SGI are the all-important 'earth' of ordinary people from which the 'human flowers' called Bodhisattvas of the Earth emerge. "Our men's and women's division district and group leaders are tirelessly sowing the seeds of hope and nourishing members' growth with encouragement. Their presence enables everyone to establish solid roots of faith, send forth branches and leaves of seeking spirit, and achieve vigorous development. "The American civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–68) wrote: 'We can all get more [when] together than we can [when] apart. And this is the way to gain power.' [1] "I am continuing to chant daimoku morning and evening for all our districts and groups—uniting around their trusted leaders in the spirit of 'many in body, one in mind'—to bring the power of harmonious unity into full bloom. And I am praying that our courageous members striving on the front lines will enjoy good health and lead victorious lives."
