A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Shinbun and more April 27th - May 3rd, 2015 -- WORDS OF THE WEEK -- Hurrah for the triumphant songs of the people ringing out (across Japan)! I'd like to express my utmost appreciation, from the bottom of my heart, to all of our great noble fellow members who made these successive victories happen one after another! Now, let's strive, more than ever, to develop trust with the people around us and make the blossoms of good fortune and benefit abound in our local community! (*)Soka Gakkai (in Japan) endorses the Komeito Party, which won sweeping victories in local elections held on April 12th 26th, 2015. The New Komeito was originally founded by Soka Gakkai in 1964 but later separated as an independent entity, with Soka Gakkai providing only electoral support. The New Komeito is committed to giving political voice to the most vulnerable and underrepresented members of society on the issues of peace, social security, education, the environment and human rights. It works to protect the interests of non-union labour and people who work in small and medium-sized companies and constituencies that makes up a large segment of the Japanese public. NEW KOMEITO English website: http://www.komei.or.jp/en/ Monday, April 27th, 2015 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "A mind now clouded by the illusions of the innate darkness of life is like a tarnished mirror, but when polished, it is sure to become like a clear mirror, reflecting the essential nature of phenomena and the true aspect of reality. Arouse deep faith, and diligently polish your mirror day and night." (On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.1, page 4) Selection source: "Kyo no Hosshin," Seikyo Shimbun, April 27th, 2015 Tuesday, April 28th, 2015 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "Showing true filial devotion is indeed the first step towards all people attaining enlightenment. "'Faith for a harmonious family' is one of the eternal guidelines of the Soka Gakkai. Naturally, some members may be the only ones in their families practising Nichiren Buddhism. I am well aware of how difficult that can be. "In my youth, wishing for the happiness of my family, I chanted earnestly for my father to follow my mother's lead and become a Soka Gakkai member as well. Sensing my ardent wish to share Buddhism with my father, Mr. Toda said to me at that time: "'The important thing is that you stand up with strong faith. A big, magnificent umbrella can shelter many people all at once. In the same way, if one family member starts striving in faith, that person can protect the entire family. The benefit and good fortune you obtain through the wholehearted efforts you are making in your Buddhist practice will also be transmitted to your father. In his heart, he is already a Soka Gakkai member. I'm sure he's quietly supporting you, and also very proud of you." "Indeed, my father always took a warm interest in the efforts I was making for kosen-rufu alongside Mr. Toda."
