[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] 20th-26th April, 2015 Words of The Week, 20th April, Daily Gosho + 21st April, Daily Encouragement

A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week"
published in the Seikyo Shinbun and more

April 20th - 26th, 2015
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
The Daishonin states,
"Nichiren's followers are like roaring lions."*
Our voices, speaking out (for the cause of justice and truth),
are like the roaring of lions for the sake of
establishing the correct teaching for the peace of the land.
Courageously and confidently,
let's say what needs to be said!

*"Each of you should summon up the courage of a lion king and never succumb to threats from anyone. The lion king fears no other beast, nor do its cubs. Slanderers are like barking foxes, but Nichiren's followers are like roaring lions."
- "On Persecutions Befalling the Sage",
WND-I, page 997

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Employ the strategy of the Lotus Sutra before any other. 'All others who bear you enmity or malice will likewise be wiped out.' These golden words will never prove false."

(The Strategy of the Lotus Sutra
- The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin,
Vol.1, page 1001)

Seikyo Shimbun, April 20th, 2015

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"In 1916, the year before Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai came to Japan to study, the Japanese political philosopher Sakuzo Yoshino (1878–1933) wrote the following against a backdrop of worsening Sino-Japanese relations: 'If there is trust and respect between the citizens, even if hostility or misunderstanding regarding political or economic issues arise, these will be like waves stirred on the surface of the ocean by the wind, but which leave the deeply flowing currents of friendly relations undisturbed.' [i]

"This expresses my own longstanding conviction. If people of different nationalities can engage in exchanges of the heart, sharing concern for each other's happiness, the great tree of friendship that is fostered will withstand all wind and snows, extending branches of lush growth far into the future."

SGI Newsletter No. 9229, SGI President Ikeda's Peace Proposal 2015, A Shared Pledge for a More Humane Future: To Eliminate Misery from the Earth, translation released 1st April, 2015

[i] (trans. from) Yoshino, Yoshino Sakuzo senshu, 8:218–19.
