---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The Mystic Law does not exist apart from us. We should not look for it outside ourselves. Each of our lives is originally and inherently an entity of the Mystic Law. Chanting daimoku is the practice for drawing out the power that we already possess within us.

"Declaring that we are not truly practising the correct teaching of Buddhism if we seek outside of ourselves the fundamental cause for attaining enlightenment, the Daishonin sternly warns: 'If you think the Law is outside yourself, you are embracing not the Mystic Law but an inferior teaching' (WND-1, 3; 'On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime').

"Mr. Toda used to say: 'Chanting daimoku cultivates the state of Buddhahood'; and 'Faith means us ourselves having the most powerful conviction. When we chant daimoku with the firm belief that the heavenly deities will definitely protect us because we are entities of the Mystic Law, then that is precisely what will happen.'

"As the Daishonin says: 'The five characters, Myoho-renge-kyo, contain within them all teachings' (WND-1, 143). As such, the essence of Buddhism is the conviction that our lives are entities of the Mystic Law, and to manifest the benefits of the Mystic Law that reside within us and enjoy them."

SGI Newsletter No. 9214, Learning from the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin: The Teachings for Victory, [64] "The Daimoku of the Lotus Sutra." Faith Is the Foundation for Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, from the July 2014 issue of the Daibyakurenge, translation released 13th March, 2015
