"In recent years, local communities throughout Japan have been making efforts to strengthen ties between local residents and encourage greater involvement in community events and other activities.
"Our women's division members, as the suns of their communities, are spreading the light of friendship and trust day after day.
"Our men's division and young men's division members also care about their communities, but generally speaking in Japan, men are not as actively involved in the local community as women tend to be. Yet, there are actually many things that men can do to serve their communities, such as helping out with local events and participating in neighbourhood watch patrols to prevent fires and crime.
"How, then, can we encourage men to be more involved in their communities? Here, seeing other men in their neighbourhood contributing to the local community can play a vital role. It can spark men's interest and encourage them to actively participate as well.
"Today, we see our men's and young men's division members throughout Japan and around the world playing such a pioneering role. They work hard at their jobs, strive to make time for their families, and are busy with SGI activities. Nevertheless, wishing to contribute to their communities, they are active in neighbourhood associations, PTA committees, and other community organisations. Many are also engaged in serving their communities through cleanup and other hands-on activities.
"SGI members, men and women alike, are shining as beacons of reassurance in their respective communities throughout the globe.
"It was my mentor's fervent wish to bring the flowers of happiness and peace to bloom in each local community, and from there, fill the entire world with these flowers."
