A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more. Tuesday, Apr 14th, 2015 -- TO MY FRIENDS -- To our dear friends who have just begun the journey along the path of their respective missions as working members of society: Remember, that the foundation of creating deep bonds of trust always begins with polite and cheerful greetings. Try your best to shine with a strong and vibrant life force wherever you go! Tuesday, Apr 14th, 2015 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "Each of you should summon up the courage of a lion king and never succumb to threats from anyone. The lion king fears no other beast, nor do its cubs." (On Persecutions Befalling the Sage - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol. 1, page 997) Selection source: "YMD Gosho for April", Seikyo Shimbun, March 28th, 2015 Wednesday, Apr 15th, 2015 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "The Middle Way does not mean simply avoiding extremes of thought or action. Rather, it refers to the process of attaining the way; that is, of living and making one's mark on society while constantly interrogating one's own actions to ensure that they accord with the path of humanity. In encouraging people to rely on the dharma as an island, Shakyamuni also urged them to rely on themselves. In doing so he was pointing to the true significance of the Middle Way: not to unthinkingly follow one's every whim but, rather, as the Buddhist scholar Hajime Nakamura (1912–99) has stated, 'to rely on one's authentic self, the self that we can believe in and be proud of at all times.' [i] "When each of us considers all those who will be affected by our actions and reflects on the weight of our responsibility, this provides an opening for the revelation of our authentic self and for polishing our humanity."
