A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more. Tuesday, June 9th, 2015 -- TO MY FRIENDS -- It's the season of increased temperatures and humidity. Paying close attention to sudden changes in the weather, let's do all we can to look after ourselves and stay healthy! Let's try to lead a life of good health and happiness by making every effort to live a wise and sensible way of life! * Japan has just started into its rainy season. Tuesday, June 9th, 2015 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life, and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens. How could this be anything other than the boundless joy of the Law? Strengthen your power of faith more than ever." (Happiness in This World - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.1, page 681) Selection source: YMD Gosho for June, Seikyo Shimbun, May 23rd, 2015 Wednesday, June 10th, 2015 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "In one of the of the sequels to Anne of Green Gables, the main character, Anne, says: 'I really have learned to look upon each little hindrance as a jest and each great one as the foreshadowing of victory.'[1] "Encountering hardships is not defeat. Happiness doesn't depend on whether or not you have problems. Difficulties can actually become a source of joy and are a harbinger of victory. That is because they spur you to grow and improve limitlessly, and also allow you to impart joy to those around you. That is why it's important that you advance again today. You mustn't come to a standstill. "Water that keeps flowing stays pure and fresh. A waterfall that continues flowing can even cut through rock. "Nichiren Daishonin tells Nanjo Tokimitsu: 'To have faith like water means to believe continuously without ever regressing' (WND-1, 899). Those who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and strive in faith steadily, like flowing water, will definitely win in the end."
