--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"In this chapter Shakyamuni Buddha revealed the foremost point he wished to convey to us. The Buddha preached the Lotus Sutra over a period of eight years, and eight characters sum up the message that he has left behind for living beings in this later age, the Latter Day of the Law. It is in the passage that reads, 'Therefore, Universal Worthy, if you see a person who accepts and upholds this sutra, you should rise and greet him from afar, showing him the same respect you would a Buddha', particularly the eight characters that make up the end of the passage, 'you should rise and greet him,' etc."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Mr. Makiguchi began practising Nichiren Buddhism at the age of 57. In his efforts to share the Mystic Law with others, he travelled throughout the country, visiting Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Shin'etsu, Kansai, Chugoku, Kyushu, and Shizuoka.
"He declared: 'Dialogue is the only way to truly communicate with people on questions about life. Isn't [the Daishonin's treatise] "On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land" presented in the form of a dialogue?'
"Even when he was imprisoned by the Japanese militaristic authorities, Mr. Makiguchi courageously spoke about Buddhism to the guards in prison and the prosecutors interrogating him, endeavouring to persuade them of the rightness of the Daishonin's teachings.
"In his last letter from prison, we find him saying: 'I am avidly reading the philosophy of Kant,' and 'It is only natural that the three obstacles and four devils should have assailed me; it is just as the sutra states.'
"Such fearless courage is the noble spirit of Soka. Let us also speak to others about Buddhism with the same dauntless confidence as Mr. Makiguchi. Let us share our experiences, our conviction, and our joy, assuring others that they possess within them the life state of Buddhahood; that chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, the fundamental Law of life, enables us to connect with the universe; and that the Mystic Law is the source of tremendous life force."
