--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"And could not this illness of your husband's be the Buddha's design, because the Vimalakirti and Nirvana sutras both teach that sick people will surely attain Buddhahood? Illness gives rise to the resolve to attain the way."

(The Good Medicine for All Ills
- The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, page 937)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"A
pioneering men's division member from Gifu Prefecture, of whom I have fond memories, says that he was deeply moved and inspired to exert himself earnestly in his Buddhist practice for the first time after hearing the story of Chudapanthaka who, though a slow learner, steadfastly practised the Buddha's teaching and attained enlightenment. This member from Gifu struggled valiantly amid the trouble and confusion stirred up by corrupt, self-serving priests during the first priesthood issue. As a chapter leader, he pledged to make his chapter the best in Japan and strove with tireless courage to create a castle of capable peopleFulfilling a promise to his deceased son, he also built a private activity centre for kosen-rufu, where he fostered able successors as if they were his own children. 'It is important to chant earnestly for each member in your local area, especially those who don't attend activities,' he says. 'Through chanting, you come to realise that all people are Buddhas and have their own unique missions.'

The SGI is a gathering of Buddhas, built through the dedicated efforts of our noble pioneer men's and women's division members. When we contemplate the profound karmic ties that connect us as SGI members, we cannot fail to feel an inexhaustible upsurge of joy.
