"The second defining feature of a youthful spirit is the spirit of learning.
"We of the SGI are advancing worldwide kosen-rufu through our efforts based on the Daishonin's writings, following his call: 'Exert yourself in the two ways of practice and study' (WND-1, 386).
"In recent years, in particular, the SGI study movement has grown remarkably in every country and on every continent. In November and December last year, our organisations in many African countries successfully conducted the 1st All Africa Buddhist Study Exam in the New Era of Worldwide Kosen-rufu.
"Nichiren Buddhism teaches attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime, the path to absolute happiness. It also sets forth the principle of 'establishing the correct teaching for the peace of the land,' the direction for achieving a safe and thriving society, world peace, and respect for human values.
"Studying and seeking to deepen our understanding of this universal life philosophy serve as a personal source of hope for transforming our karma, and also as an inspiration for making positive contributions to society as good citizens of our respective countries.
"I am absolutely convinced that Nichiren Buddhism will become the guiding light leading the way to the unity and harmonious coexistence of the human family and the transformation of the life state of all humankind."
