[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] 9-15 Jan 2017 Words of the Week, 9 Jan Daily Gosho and 10 Jan Daily Encouragement

A translation of "To My Friends"
published in the Seikyo Shinbun based
on President Ikeda's recent guidance,
and more.

January 9th - 15th, 2017
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
All of our fellow members
who have "come of age" over the past year*
are the ones who will proudly play leading roles
in a new era.
The Daishonin encourages us with the following,
"My wish is that all my disciples make a great vow."**
Let's together lead great noble lives!

*In Japan, every second Monday of January is a national holiday to traditionally congratulate all those who have reached the age of majority (20 years old) over the past year and to encourage and help them to realise that they have become adults. In the last year though young people have been given the right to vote at 18.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"We may say that the words 'wonderful sound' refer to the unfathomable and wonderful sound made at the present time, in the Latter Day of the Law, when Nichiren and his followers now chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. Therefore it is the wonderful sound that tells us that earthly desires are enlightenment, and that the sufferings of birth and death are nirvana."

(Chapter Twenty-four: The Bodhisattva Wonderful Sound- The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, page 176)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Today, many are concerned by what they perceive as the growing danger of division around the world. For that very reason, let's work even harder to reach out in dialogue based on respect for others, transcending all differences. Through dialogue that seeks to unite people as global citizens—which is the hallmark of the SGI—let us build rainbow bridges of peace and coexistence that will adorn the future of our world.

"May all of you, as eternally youthful Bodhisattvas of the Earth, call forth new friends and foster many more capable individuals, determined to make this another triumphant year in your own lives and in the annals of kosen-rufu!"

SGI Newsletter No. 9522, SGI President Ikeda's New Year's Message for 2017, Youthful Bodhisattvas of the Earth, Be the Light of Hope for Humanity!, translation released 4th Jan. 2017
