-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The essence of this Buddhist practice
is to help us to polish our characters.
It's through making ceaseless efforts to
develop and improve the way we interact
with the people around us
that helps us to win their trust,
at the same time it proves
how valid and true,
these Buddhist teachings are!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"It goes without saying, therefore, that persons who study the teachings of Buddhism must also [observe the ideal of filial piety and] understand and repay their obligations. The disciples of the Buddha must without fail understand the four debts of gratitude and know how to repay them.."

(The Opening of the Eyes
- WND, Vol. I, page 228)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The third defining feature of a youthful spirit is the spirit of open dialogue.

"Kosen-rufu is the expansion of friendship, the expansion of empathy and trust. It is making steady efforts to engage in courageous and sincere dialogue in our homes, workplaces, communities, and the world at large, thereby forging and expanding warm human ties and uniting people's hearts.

"Bodhisattva Never Disparaging, who appears in the Lotus Sutra, believed in the infinitely noble potential—the Buddha nature—inherent in all people, addressing everyone he met with the utmost deference and respect. Even when arrogant individuals reacted negatively and attacked him, he refused to abandon his efforts. He continued to press ahead cheerfully, with wisdom and persistence, reaching out in dialogue based on his unwavering conviction and commitment.

"In relation to Bodhisattva Never Disparaging's actions, the Daishonin says: 'It is like the situation when one faces a mirror and makes a bow of obeisance: the image in the mirror likewise makes a bow of obeisance to oneself' (OTT, 165).

"However others may appear on the surface or whatever their outward reaction, when we speak to them from our Buddha nature, the Buddha nature in the depths of their own lives will respond in turn. That's why it's important to believe in the inherent potential of others when we speak to them, and to continue praying for their happiness. By doing so, we will definitely be able to connect them to the Mystic Law and forge strong bonds of trust and friendship. This is the spirit of the Lotus Sutra and the essence of our Buddhist practice."
