A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week"
published in the Seikyo Shinbun and more

-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
It all starts with our mens and young mens division members
bringing about a transformation in society and the community
based on taking courageous action.
The Gosho says:
"To discard the shallow and seek the profound
is the way of a person of courage."*
Let's burn with a courageous spirit
and advance based on the powerful bonds
between the mens and young mens divisions!
* Gosho: On the Buddha's Prophecy - WND1, pg. 402,
"Shakyamuni taught that the shallow is easy to embrace,
but the profound is difficult. To discard the shallow and
seek the profound is the way of a person of courage."
Monday, February 23rd, 2015
--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Just as all the different kinds of plants and trees come forth from the earth, so all the various teachings of the Buddha are spread by persons."
(Questions and Answers about Embracing the Lotus Sutra
- The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, page 61)
Selection source: President Ikeda's Essay,

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"'The Law does not spread by itself: because people propagate it, both people and the Law are respect-worthy' (GZ, 856),[1] as the Daishonin says.
"No matter how supreme the Law is, without practitioners who will propagate it into the eternal future of the Latter Day, people will not be able to enjoy its benefits. Kosen-rufu advances only when there are individuals who teach and transmit the Mystic Law to others, in accord with the instructions of a correct teacher.
"'Following me [Nichiren]'—in the passage 'following me, you [Shijo Kingo], as a votary of the Lotus Sutra, have told others of this Law' (WND-1, 319), refers to the unity of mentor and disciple.
"Those who strive with the vibrant spirit of oneness of mentor and disciple are true votaries of the Lotus Sutra, true envoys of the Buddha. Even if they communicate to another just a single phrase of the sutra, their actions are infinitely meaningful and they will therefore receive immense benefit."
SGI Newsletter No. 9201, Learning from the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin: The Teachings for Victory, [63] "Earthly Desires Are Enlightenment," Striving as "Envoys of the Thus Come One", from the June 2014 issue of the Daibyakurenge, translation released 18th Feb., 2015
