A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shinbun and more. Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 -- TO MY FRIENDS -- To all of our friends striving hard at work while at the same time doing their best for kosen-rufu, be victorious no matter what challenges you face! With courage, hard work and perseverance you definitely can break through that seemingly insurmountable wall before you! Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "Exert yourself in the two ways of practice and study." (The True Aspect of All Phenomena - The WND Vol 1, page 386) Selection source: Teachings of Buddhism, Seikyo Shinbun, November 15th, 2016 Wednesday, November 16th, 2016 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "Back in the days when my mentor Josei Toda's businesses were being hit by one setback after another, I found inspiration and comfort in the story of Sudatta, which Nichiren Daishonin shared in one of his letters [titled 'The Wealthy Man Sudatta']. He recounted this tale of an amazing reversal in fortunes to his youthful disciple Nanjo Tokimitsu, who bravely fought to defend him and offered refuge to fellow practitioners during the Atsuhara Persecution. "Sudatta was a wealthy man who had been reduced to poverty seven times and then rebuilt his fortunes seven times. During his final period of poverty, he lost everything, and only his wife stayed by his side. Yet, in spite of their dire circumstances, they selflessly gave their last remaining food as offerings to Shakyamuni and his disciples. In response to their sincere, unfaltering devotion, their situation changed dramatically. From that day on, Sudatta and his wife became the wealthiest people in all of India and later built the Jetavana Monastery for Shakyamuni and his disciples (cf. WND-1, 1086). "Pulling oneself up and starting over, no matter how many times one is knocked down—unwavering faith is the ultimate power source that makes this possible. "Life can be a series of trials, subjecting us to seemingly unbearable misery—taking the form of financial hardship, difficulties at work, family or relationship problems, the recurrence of an illness, and even natural disasters. But it is exactly these times that put our faith to the test. This is when we should chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, following the Daishonin's encouragement to 'Strengthen your power of faith more than ever' (WND-1, 681), and face every obstacle with an undefeatable spirit. "The Mystic Law is a source of revitalisation, and our Buddhist practice enables us to attain absolute victory. As a result, we can definitely find a way forwards."
